soundthing: Home
I started soundthing out of my deep love of female folk music. The line I draw from goes back to the 12th Century and the visionary composer of ecstatic chant Hildegarde von Bingen. It continues through the Big Bang birth mother of Americana folk, Mother Maybelle, and onto Anne Briggs, Vashti Bunyan, Judee Sill and Joanna Newsom. I hope to view this line through the production lens of Mr. Lee Hazlewood and also take musical aim at the true blue American sound aesthetic of Chester Burton Atkins. I will follow my production template to certain Southern California studios of the mid 60's and onto Philip Spector, Gary Usher and especially Curt Boettcher. Curt's string of singles from 1965 to 1968 forms the touchstone for the warmth and experimental optimism I hope to find through soundthing releases.
I only hope to tread lightly in the footsteps of those who first discovered the recording studio as the main musical instrument.
